OCTOBER MOVIE REVIEW

Image
October took me by surprise at so many levels. It did help that I went in knowing nothing about the film, except that Varun Dhawan was one of the actors. That might also be why the pace of the first half hour got slightly annoying. But, having seen the film, that pace makes more sense than ever. And ultimately, I am glad I hadn't seen the trailer before watching the film because there is a good chance I would have walked in expecting to watch a very different film, a film about two lovers, one of whom is in a coma. What I watched was a very human story that is about relationships that have no whys and hows, they just are. I am sure that I will not have enough of the Shoojit Sircar-Juhi Chaturvedi combination. As October progressed, I wondered, “Why are you getting involved? Why are your eyes brimming up? Why are you getting affected? It’s not like you can relate to any of the characters, you don’t think like most of them. It’s not like this is the first film you have seen about a...

WELCOME BACK MOVIE REVIEW

Image
In this era of sequels, many filmmakers are trying their luck. Some have found success, while others, after failing, have never considered making a sequel again. This time, director Anees Bazmee, whose film Welcome was a huge hit, is trying his hand at a sequel. This time, Khiladi Kumar's presence is absent, and Katrina Kaif's charisma is also lacking, but John Abraham and Shruti Haasan seem to be making up for it. Furthermore, there's the combination of Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar. So, before answering whether all this is enough to make Welcome Back a hit, let's tell you the story of the film. The two brothers from the previous installment, Uday (Nana Patekar) and Majnu (Anil Kapoor), have given up their evil ways and become simple businessmen in Dubai. They fall in love with Chandni (Ankita Srivastava), the princess of Najafgarh, whose mother is the queen of Najafgarh (Dimple Kapadia). But before they can marry her, the two brothers must send off their step-sister, ...

GRAND MASTI-2 MOVIE REVIEW

Image
Meet (Vivek Oberoi), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani), and Amar (Ritesh Deshmukh) are living a normal life, having renounced their past mischief, when they receive an invitation to a student reunion at their college, Shri Lalchand University of Technology and Science. Upon arriving, their playful instincts are rekindled, and they embark on new mischief. Then, the trio finds themselves surrounded by trouble. Once again, they realize that excess always leads to harm. This is the story, but it also has numerous twists and turns at every step. The attempt to upgrade everything has taken vulgarity and double-meaning dialogue to new heights, making it extremely awkward to watch this film, released in the name of an adult comedy, from a sitting room. This is precisely why the film's release has been stayed in many parts of the country. It's a bit difficult to expect a film like this from director Indra Kumar, but after watching the film, one has to admire his courage in getting his actors to...

AASHQI 1990 MOVIE REVIEW

Image
When the film "Aashiqui," directed by legendary director Mahesh Bhatt, was released on August 17, 1990, everyone believed that Bollywood had found its next superhit pair in Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. Mahesh Bhatt's innocence was so beautifully captured on the silver screen through music that viewers were mesmerized. The film's record-breaking success can be gauged from the fact that "Aashiqui" ran house-full for six months. Gulshan Kumar was the producer of "Aashiqui," and Mahesh Bhatt was the director. Both bet on newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. But the gamble proved wise; the musical's success quickly earned Rahul the title of romantic hero and lover boy. No one would have imagined that a modeling boy would become a superstar with his first film. When Rahul Roy was seen singing "Bas Ek Sanam Chahiye Aashiqui Ke Liye" and "Nazar Ke Samne Jigar Ke Paas" with Anu Aggarwal on the silver screen, many viewers were so me...

SITA RAMAM MOVIE REVIEW

Image
A lost letter must reach its recipient twenty years later. Along the way, a troublemaker learns lessons in humility and love. Review: When Hanu Raghavapudi debuted in 2012 with the beautiful film "Andala Rakshasi," audiences had high expectations, which were somewhat dampened by subsequent films. But with "Sita Ramam," the director has reassured his reputation with a poetic love story that may not be as unexpected as the makers anticipated, but still captivates audiences. In 1985, Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna) is a Pakistani rebel studying in London, stuck in her ways and deeply hating India. Even though she's from across the border, her feelings reflect those of young people across the border today. At the beginning of the film, she is told that the cure for her anger is love, but she dismisses it as a platitude.                                                ...

CHENNAI EXPRESS MOVIE REVIEW

Image
After nearly a month and a half of promotion, this film starring Bollywood's King Khan, released for the first time on nearly 4,000 screens in India and abroad, has already made it clear that those seeking something new may not enjoy this express train ride. Nearly six years after "Om Shanti Om," the romantic pairing of Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan continues to resonate with audiences. Director Rohit Shetty, who has delivered several box office superhits to date, has recreated many of the elements from his previous successful films in this action-packed romantic love story, made with a budget of approximately eighty crores. Rohit Shetty developed this script by K. Subhash about five years ago. Meanwhile, Rohit attempted to adapt this script before starting each new film, but the sheer budget required for the project was unsuccessful. Last year, Rohit began working on this expensive project with the help of a major corporate company and his friend Karim Morani. The...

HAPPY NEWYEAR MOVIE REVIEW

Image
Seeing Farah Khan's family members (Farah, Sajid, and Shirish) on posters is terrifying, as they've produced films like "Joker," "Humshakals," "Tees Maar Khan," and "Himmatwala," which were nothing short of torture for most people. They give such lengthy explanations that it's difficult to wrap their heads around. Despite this, Shah Rukh Khan, who had assaulted Farah's husband, put aside the bitterness and, keeping in mind the past hits "Main Hoon Na" and "Om Shanti Om," handed over the reins of a film worth approximately 150 crore rupees to Farah. Farah depicted a major heist in her previous film, "Tees Maar Khan." Audiences didn't appreciate it, but Farah felt she was right, so she reinvented the story in "Happy New Year." Even in Bollywood, known for its herd mentality, many actors are obsessed with playing "thieves." Akshay Kumar (Tees Maar Khan), Aamir Khan (Dhoom 3), Hr...

DEVDAS TRUTH LOVE MOVIE REVIEW

Image
Devdas is an epic, semi-autobiographical Bengali short novel written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Written in 1901, the novel wasn't published until 1917 due to Chattopadhyay's embarrassment over the story. He published several novels, including Nishkriti, Parineeta, and Shrikant, but Devdas remains his most popular. Devdas is a tragic love story of Devdas and Parvati (also known as Paro). Both from Brahmin families, Devdas and Paro are neighbors and childhood sweethearts. Devdas is a spoiled, mischievous, and short-tempered child who has no interest in studies. He often acts like a clown in class, and Paro encourages his mischief. Due to his behavior, Devdas's father sends him to Calcutta to study. As time passes and they reach adulthood, Paro's grandmother suggests arranging their marriage. However, Devdas's mother, Kaushalya, disapproves of the relationship due to the disparity in their families' financial status. Paro's father arranges a marriage betw...

DILWALE MOVIE REVIEW SHAHRUKH KHAN

Image
Rohit Shetty eschews the details of past hits and instead focuses on the subject matter, crafting his own style. His latest film, "Dilwale," echoes themes from "Hum" and "Chalte Ka Naam Gaadi." The car-grocery and the elder brother's insistence on the younger brother staying away from girls are borrowed from "Chalte Ka Naam Gaadi," while the theme of abandoning past hooliganism and living a peaceful life is taken from "Hum." Some scenes are cribbed from English films, such as the five-minute dating scene between Shah Rukh and Kajol, inspired by "How I Met Your Mother." The crucial question is, despite the inspiration, is "Dilwale" entertaining? The answer is that while there are some scenes that make you laugh, move you emotionally, and thrill you, the film as a whole lacks impact. It fails to live up to the weight of expectations. The story revolves around Raj (Shah Rukh Khan), who lives in Goa with his brother...

SAAJAN SALMAN KHAN MOVIE REVIEW

Image
It's been 25 years since the release of the Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Madhuri Dixit starrer "Saajan." The film was released on August 30, 1991. Made in just 36 days, it became the biggest hit of that year. This film, filled with a love triangle, friendship, and beautiful songs, is trending on Twitter to mark its 25th anniversary. The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) contains many interesting facts about the film, which we are sharing here. Songs like "Dekha Hai Pehli Baar...," "Jiye To Jeeyen Kaise...," "Tu Shayar Hai...," and "Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai..." are still very popular. At the time, the film's song album was one of the most successful music albums of the year. Director Lawrence D'Souza's first choice for Sanjay Dutt's role in the film was Aamir Khan. However, Aamir Khan declined, and Sanjay Dutt played the role of Aman. Madhuri's role in the film was originally offered to Ayesha Jhulka, but she d...
