ROCKSTAR MOVIE REVIEW

Rockstar is one of the best examples of the Hero’s Journey, but the thing is that we see Jordan not as a hero but as a normal human being, a college going boy who wants to be like Jim Morrison, a Rockstar. We can easily call him a tragic hero of his life.

anardhan Jhakar, a boy with a dream to become a rockstar, whose family wants him to join the transport business, as we have heard him in the film saying, “Maine kabhi bhi nhi jaana transport business mein”, earned a lot of money and fame, but lost his home, family and his love. It is the perfect depiction of sacrifice for success and how it can be destructive for a person. JJ is a very complex character written by Imtiaz Ali, by far the most complex character played by Ranbir Kapoor. For a major part of the film, we don’t even know what the character is thinking or what he will do, and his actions come as a surprise for us, and that feels very real and raw. For example, that scene where, Dheengra (played by Piyush Mishra is offering Khatana Bhaia contract for Jordan for 5 albums along with a clause that he cannot work outside, we see Jordan sitting on the sofa, holding the contract papers, and the next moment comes as a surprise for us as well as other characters of the film, as we see him singing a havan arti and tearing the papers and then throwing them on Dheengra’s face. This shows that he is taking decisions without thinking anything, maybe he has lost it, which was pretty clear by Khatana Bhai’s expressions. One more important aspect about the character that I noticed is the he always wanted fame, but never believed in showing off or wearing new and expensive clothes. We have never seen him being neat and clean, being nice to someone, but, his love for Heer can be seen clearly as whenever he goes to meet her, he used to wear good clothes, be neat & clean. Examples of this can be seen in the scene where we see him in a good-looking shirt-pent at Heer’s wedding, or when he goes to propose to her in the college. When Heer’s sister-in-law invites him for dinner, we see him wearing a royal dress, when he meets her after 2 years, when she calls him to take her for a ride, we see him clean shaved, well combed, well dressed, neat & clean, this shows that he is ready to change himself for her.

One more aspect which I noticed in the film is that JJ doesn’t have any friends, yes he did have a group in his college days, but it did not last. Most of his friends were not there for his support but used to take advantage of him. He sacrificed all his friendships too. Also when he becomes Jordan, a rockstar, he did go to his college meetup, but we clearly saw in that sequence that no one was interested to know about him, to know how was he, why didn;t he talked with anyone, but the only thing that they were interested in to take photographs with the celebrity. I really felt very bad for Jordan as he did have interest in talking to his friends, but did not get the same in return. This was another time in the film where I related to the lines, “Jo bhi main kehna chahun, barbaad karein alfaaz mere”.

Heer, on the other hand, is a very calm girl., but she wants to be that amazing delhi girl. The beauty queen of her college, she is getting married and going to Prague after marriage. She finds JJ, a special person with whom she can share her feelings, with whom she can be what she always wanted to be, experience doing those crazy things, that checklist that she wants to complete before going to Prague. When JJ tried to propose to her, she rejected multiple times, maybe knowing that he is doing all this just for fun. She became friends with him later on, sharing the real crazy side of her with him. At her wedding in Kashmir, the film shows multiple moments where we see love for Jordan in Heer’s eyes. The scene where she enjoys going out with him on bike rides, that too ‘chupke’, when she tells him to give a hug tightly, when she says, “kuch mat puchna, varna main sach bol dungi”. Since Heer was the one who gave JJ the name Jordan, this was a great way to depict that JJ becomes Jordan because of Heer, and actually this was the reason. When she rejects him in Prague, it was the first time we saw Jordan actually composing a song, ‘Aur Ho’, out of that heart break, out of that pain. In the entire second half of the film, she tries to keep herself away from Jordan but she knew her love for him & when she says, “Main khud ko hi nhi pehchaan paayi”, to Jai (her husband), it became clear that now she has no frear, no pressure, she is free from the bounds of society, and now she can live with Jordan.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           hatana Bhai, played by Khumud Mishrta, the manager of Hindu College canteen, was an important character in Jordan’s journey. He is the one who used to tell JJ to leave this ‘Baaja Tambura’ and study to become a lawyer at ‘Tees Hazari’, and he is the one with the most famous monologue of the film, “Dukh, Dard, Aansoon, jab tak takleef na ho na life mein, tab tak koi bada nhi banta. Voh dusre type ki zindagi hoti hai, jo insaan ko kalakaar banati hai”. The importance of love and heartbreak came into the life of JJ because of him. So in a way we can clearly say that this journey started because of him. He always stood with Jordan, even in his worst time, and the entire runtime, we saw him calling Jordan as with “JJ”or”puttar (son)r”, reflecting him as a family to Jordan. In the entire movie, other than heer, he was the only one who worried about Jordan and his future, who never took advantage of him.

Dheengra, played by Piyush Mishra, adds humour to the film. He is a typical business man who reflects the dark side of the industry. The most famous, as well as funny scene of him, is the massage scene, where he tells Jordan, “To ab koi artist-wartist nhi hai, tu hai star, aur ek start ke liye sab kuch hoti hai image, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING & EVERYTHING IS IMAGE”. Piyush Mishra’s performance was spectacular in the movie and that is the reason his character is famous today also.

After the end of Jo Bhi Main song, we see JJ sitting the Hindu College Canteen, talking about Jim Morrison, that how he showed middle finger in front of the crowd and cameras, and people reacted like he is so cool, and what great work he has done, and here JJ is playing music in front of people waiting at the bus stand, and the policemen slaps him. Here, the gesture of JJ is like he is complaining to his friends.

This gets connected to the scene which comes in the song Naadan Parindey, where we see Jordan showing middle finger to everyone there and the cameras, and this depicts that now, he does not care what the world thinks about him, he is done with them, and now he will be waiting for Heer to come to that meeting place.

Filming Kun Faya Kun

One of the most special songs of the album to me and to many fans is Kun Faya Kun shot inside Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi, and sung by Mohit Chauhan, Javed Ali & A.R Rehman, featuring the great Nizam Brothers. One of the great challenges that came in the filming of that film is that no tracks were allowed inside so all the pre-planned tracking shots were cancelled and only crane and jib shots were taken, so we see only moving shots in the song and no static shots.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     mumbai escorts||  gurugram escorts||  gurugram call girls||  call girls in gurugram||  jaipur escorts||  gurugram escort service||
